Harrier prices in Kenya explained: every importable grade, old shape vs new shape, petrol vs hybrid, fuel consumption, maintenance, resale and how to import one with a fixed KES quote.

Toyota Harrier price in Kenya: Toyota Harrier imported by Elisa Motors

The Toyota Harrier price in Kenya starts at about KES 4.3M for a compliant new-shape Premium and reaches KES 6.3M for the Hybrid Z E-Four. That makes the Harrier one of the most popular premium crossovers in Kenya. In fact, you see it everywhere from Kilimani parking lots to Kisumu's Oginga Odinga Street.

The Harrier offers Lexus-like comfort at Toyota running costs. It is quiet, stylish and reliable. Moreover, its hybrid version delivers excellent fuel economy in Nairobi traffic. As a result, it appeals to professionals, families and ride-hailing drivers who want something more upmarket.

This guide covers every importable Harrier grade, the old and new shapes, petrol vs hybrid, running costs, resale value and buying tips. Furthermore, it shows how Elisa Motors imports a Harrier from Japan with one fixed price in Kenya shillings.

Old shape vs new shape Harrier

XU60 Harrier (2013–2020)

The XU60 is the Harrier most Kenyans know. It has sharp styling and a comfortable cabin. However, most XU60s are now outside the 8-year window. Only late 2019 and early 2020 units can still be imported in 2026.

Older 2015–2018 Harriers trade locally on Jiji and in Nairobi yards. They cost less. Still, mileage can be hard to verify, and they cannot be imported again. Read our mileage check guide before buying one.

XU80 Harrier (2020 onwards)

The new-shape XU80 arrived in mid-2020. It sits on Toyota's TNGA-K platform, shared with the RAV4. Moreover, it has a sleeker coupe-like body, a better interior and a much more efficient hybrid. As a result, it is the Harrier most buyers now want.

Harrier grades explained

S and G grades

The S is the base grade, with cloth seats and fewer extras. The G adds more comfort features. Both are good value. However, they are less common in export stock than higher grades.

Premium

The Harrier Premium 2.0 lands at about KES 4.3M – 4.9M. It adds synthetic leather, a larger screen and more safety features. Consequently, it is the most popular grade in Kenya.

Z and Z Leather Package

The Z Leather Package costs about KES 4.8M – 5.4M. It adds real leather, a JBL sound system, a digital rear-view mirror and the optional panoramic roof with electrochromic dimming.

Hybrid Z E-Four

The Hybrid Z E-Four lands at about KES 5.6M – 6.3M. It pairs a 2.5 petrol engine with electric motors and electric all-wheel drive. In fact, it returns over 20 km/L in mixed driving.

Toyota Harrier specifications by version

Here is how each Toyota Harrier version we import compares. All of them seat 5, and you can import them from Japan.

Toyota Harrier Premium 2.0. This version uses a 2.0-litre petrol engine with 171 hp, a cvt automatic gearbox and two-wheel drive. In addition, it returns about 14 km/L and lands in Kenya at roughly KES 4.3M – 4.9M.

Toyota Harrier Z 2.0 Leather Package. This version uses a 2.0-litre petrol engine with 171 hp, a cvt automatic gearbox and two-wheel drive. Moreover, it returns about 14 km/L and lands in Kenya at roughly KES 4.8M – 5.4M.

Toyota Harrier Hybrid Z 2.5 E-Four. This version uses a 2.5-litre hybrid engine with 218 hp, a e-cvt automatic gearbox and AWD. As a result, it returns about 21 km/L and lands in Kenya at roughly KES 5.6M – 6.3M.

Every Toyota Harrier we import includes these key features: premium interior & ride, panoramic roof (selected units), JBL audio option, digital rear-view mirror and hybrid E-Four AWD option.

Petrol or hybrid Harrier?

The 2.0 petrol is simpler and cheaper to buy. It returns roughly 13–15 km/L in mixed driving. It suits buyers who drive moderate distances.

The hybrid costs more upfront but saves a lot of fuel. For example, a buyer commuting daily from Ruiru or Kitengela to the CBD will recover the extra cost over time. Moreover, the hybrid is smoother and quieter in traffic. Browse all hybrid cars.

Harrier fuel consumption

The 2.0 petrol returns about 13–15 km/L in mixed driving. The hybrid returns over 20 km/L, and even more in slow Nairobi traffic. Therefore, the hybrid is the clear winner for daily commuters.

Harrier maintenance in Kenya

Toyota parts are widely available, and many garages know the Harrier well. Service every 5,000–10,000 km depending on use. Moreover, change the CVT fluid on schedule, because neglected CVTs can judder.

Hybrid systems are reliable but need a garage with hybrid experience. In addition, check the hybrid battery cooling fan for dust. Read our hybrid import guide.

Common Harrier issues

Older XU60 Harriers can show dashboard cracks in strong sun and CVT wear if fluid was neglected. New-shape cars are very reliable. However, check that all driver-assist cameras and sensors work. Similarly, check for minor cosmetic marks noted on the auction sheet.

Harrier vs rivals

The Mazda CX-5 drives better and costs less. The Toyota RAV4 is more practical and rugged. Meanwhile, the Lexus NX is more luxurious but more expensive. Read our CX-5 vs Harrier comparison.

For a cheaper option, see the Nissan X-Trail and Subaru Forester. Read our cheap alternatives guide.

Harrier resale value

The Harrier holds its value strongly in Kenya. Pearl white and black are the fastest-selling colours. Moreover, hybrids attract strong demand from fuel-conscious buyers. A full service record adds real value.

Harrier buying checklist

First, confirm the first registration date is 2019 or later. Second, verify the mileage against the auction sheet. Third, test the CVT for smooth acceleration. Then test the hybrid system, cameras and screens. Finally, compare with a fresh import quote.

Popular Harrier options

The panoramic roof, JBL audio and digital mirror are popular. Moreover, the 360-degree camera helps in tight Nairobi parking. In addition, many owners add tinted windows, an English Android screen and a tracker.

Harrier for ride-hailing and business

Some premium ride-hailing drivers use the Harrier Hybrid. Its comfort impresses passengers, and its fuel economy protects margins. However, check the platform's vehicle requirements first.

Harrier prices by year

A 2019 XU60 Harrier is the cheapest importable option. However, it is the old shape, and it drops out of the import window in 2027. A 2020 or 2021 new-shape XU80 costs noticeably more. Meanwhile, 2022 and newer cars cost the most but will stay importable for longer.

For most buyers, a 2020–2021 XU80 Premium or Z offers the best balance. It has the modern design and efficient engines at a fair price. Moreover, it will resell well for years.

Who should buy a Harrier?

The Harrier suits professionals who want comfort and style without German running costs. It also suits families with one or two children, because the rear seat and boot are generous. In addition, it suits buyers who drive long daily commutes, especially the hybrid.

However, it is not a seven-seater, and it is not a serious off-roader. Larger families should consider the Prado or Mazda CX-8. Similarly, buyers who regularly drive rough rural roads may prefer the Forester.

Harrier vs Lexus NX

The Lexus NX shares much of its engineering with Toyota. It adds a more luxurious cabin and Lexus badge. However, it costs more and is less common in Kenya. Therefore, the Harrier is often the smarter value choice. Many owners say the new Harrier feels almost as premium as an NX inside.

First-year ownership tips

After delivery, book a full service and check the CVT fluid. Then fit a tracker for insurance. Moreover, convert the infotainment to English if it was not done before delivery.

Protect the paint with wax or ceramic coating, especially on pearl white cars. In addition, check tyre pressures monthly. Correct pressures improve comfort and reduce wear on Nairobi's rough roads.

Harrier prices in Nairobi vs Mombasa

A direct import costs the same wherever you live. Only the delivery from Mombasa differs. In contrast, showroom prices in Nairobi and Mombasa include stocking costs and margin. As a result, a fresh import often costs less than a yard Harrier of the same year. Buyers in Eldoret, Kisumu and Kakamega, where new-shape stock is limited, often save the most.

Financing a Harrier

Many buyers finance a Harrier through bank asset finance or a SACCO loan. Banks usually ask for a pro-forma invoice, a valuation and a deposit. We provide the documents quickly. Read our car finance guide.

Toyota RAV4: the Harrier's practical sibling

Here is how each Toyota RAV4 version we import compares. All of them seat 5, and you can import them from Japan, UK or South Africa.

Toyota RAV4 X 2.0. This version uses a 2.0-litre petrol engine with 171 hp, a cvt automatic gearbox and two-wheel drive. In addition, it returns about 15 km/L and lands in Kenya at roughly KES 3.8M – 4.3M.

Toyota RAV4 G 2.0 4WD. This version uses a 2.0-litre petrol engine with 171 hp, a cvt automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive. Moreover, it returns about 14 km/L and lands in Kenya at roughly KES 4.1M – 4.6M.

Toyota RAV4 Adventure 2.0 4WD. This version uses a 2.0-litre petrol engine with 171 hp, a cvt automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive. As a result, it returns about 14 km/L and lands in Kenya at roughly KES 4.3M – 4.8M.

Toyota RAV4 Hybrid G 2.5 E-Four. This version uses a 2.5-litre hybrid engine with 218 hp, a e-cvt automatic gearbox and AWD. Similarly, it returns about 21 km/L and lands in Kenya at roughly KES 4.6M – 5.2M.

Every Toyota RAV4 we import includes these key features: selectable terrain modes, 4WD options, toyota Safety Sense, large 580 L boot and hybrid with 21 km/L.

The RAV4 and Harrier share the same platform and engines. However, the RAV4 is boxier, with a bigger boot and a more rugged look. In contrast, the Harrier is sleeker, quieter and more luxurious inside. Therefore, choose the RAV4 for practicality and the Harrier for comfort and style. Both hold their value well in Kenya. Moreover, both are available as efficient hybrids with electric all-wheel drive, which suit Nairobi traffic and wet upcountry roads alike.

In addition, both are easy to service at any Toyota-friendly garage across Kenya, from Kisumu to Malindi.

Parts for both are stocked widely, so repairs rarely mean long waits, even in smaller towns.

Where we deliver Harriers

We serve buyers across Nairobi, including Kilimani, Westlands, Lavington, Kileleshwa, South B, South C, Syokimau, Ruaka and Karen. We also serve Nakuru, Eldoret, Kisumu, Thika, Nyeri, Nanyuki, Machakos, Meru, Kericho and Kakamega. At the coast, we serve Mombasa, Nyali, Kilifi and Diani.
