Range Rover Velar Price in Kenya (2026): R-Dynamic D200, P250 and P400 Costs in Nairobi, Mombasa and Beyond

The stylish middle Range Rover, priced properly: Velar landed costs by engine and trim, diesel or petrol, ex UK or ex Japan, running costs and how we import one.

Range Rover Velar price in Kenya: Range Rover Velar imported by Elisa Motors

The Range Rover Velar price in Kenya starts at about KES 6.5M for a D200 R-Dynamic diesel and reaches KES 10M for a P400 HSE. That places the Velar neatly between the Evoque and the Range Rover Sport. In fact, many buyers in Kilimani, Lavington and Karen choose it as the most stylish Range Rover for the money.

The Velar launched in 2017 with a minimalist cabin and flush door handles. It still looks modern today. However, it is a different car from the Sport, with a lower roof and a more road-focused setup. Therefore, it pays to understand what you are buying.

This guide covers every Velar version you can import in 2026, landed prices, running costs and buying tips. Furthermore, it explains how Elisa Motors imports a Velar with one fixed price in Kenya shillings.

Velar engines and trims explained

Velar D200 and D180 diesel

The D200 R-Dynamic SE lands at about KES 6.5M – 7.5M. Earlier cars carry the D180 badge with a similar 2.0 diesel. It returns roughly 14–16 km/L on the highway. Consequently, it is the best Velar for long trips to Nakuru, Nyeri or Mombasa.

Velar P250 petrol

The P250 R-Dynamic HSE costs about KES 7M – 8.2M. Its 2.0 turbo petrol is smooth and quiet in Nairobi traffic. Moreover, it avoids the diesel particulate filter issues that affect cars driven only short distances.

Velar P400 and P380

The P400 HSE lands at about KES 8.5M – 10M. Its six-cylinder engine is much faster. Earlier cars used a supercharged V6, badged P380. However, both use noticeably more fuel than the four-cylinders.

Trim levels

Velar trims run from base, S, SE and HSE, each available as "R-Dynamic" with sportier styling. Later cars simplified this to S, SE, HSE and Dynamic variants. Similarly, the 2021 update added the Pivi Pro infotainment, which is faster and easier to use.

Velar 2021 update: why it matters

From the 2021 model year, the Velar gained Pivi Pro infotainment, a cleaner interior and updated engines with mild-hybrid support. In addition, a P400e plug-in hybrid joined the range in some markets.

Pre-update cars cost less. However, the newer system is quicker and receives software updates. Therefore, we usually recommend 2021-onward cars if your budget allows.

Range Rover Velar prices by year

A 2019 Velar sits at the lower end of the importable range. A 2021 or 2022 car costs more thanks to the update. Meanwhile, a 2023 or 2024 car with the final facelift costs the most.

Older 2017 and 2018 Velars still sell locally, often on Jiji or in Nairobi yards. They can look like good value. However, they are outside the 8-year window and often carry unknown mileage. For that reason, inspect any local car carefully.

Range Rover Velar specifications by version

Here is how each Range Rover Velar version we import compares. All of them seat 5, and you can import them from UK or Japan.

Range Rover Velar D200 R-Dynamic SE. This version uses a 2.0-litre diesel engine with 204 hp, a 8-speed automatic gearbox and AWD. In addition, it returns about 15 km/L and lands in Kenya at roughly KES 6.5M – 7.5M.

Range Rover Velar P250 R-Dynamic HSE. This version uses a 2.0-litre petrol engine with 249 hp, a 8-speed automatic gearbox and AWD. Moreover, it returns about 12 km/L and lands in Kenya at roughly KES 7M – 8.2M.

Range Rover Velar P400 HSE. This version uses a 3.0-litre petrol engine with 400 hp, a 8-speed automatic gearbox and AWD. As a result, it returns about 10 km/L and lands in Kenya at roughly KES 8.5M – 10M.

Every Range Rover Velar we import includes these key features: elegant design, touch Pro Duo, air suspension option, AWD and luxury.

Our services: Range Rover Velar imports across Kenya

Elisa Motors handles the full Velar import. Here is what we do for buyers in Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Kisumu, Eldoret and beyond.

1. Velar sourcing from the UK

The UK has hundreds of Velars for sale at any time. Many are Land Rover approved-used cars with warranties and full service history. We shortlist cars that match your engine, trim, colour and budget.

MOT records confirm mileage, which protects you later when you sell. See our UK Range Rover import guide.

2. Velar sourcing from Japan

Japan supplies fewer Velars, but they are usually low-mileage and very clean. Auction sheets grade every car. In addition, we translate and explain each sheet.

We also arrange English conversion of navigation and radio where needed. Read our auction sheet guide to learn how grading works.

3. Landed cost quote in Kenya shillings

Our quote covers the car, freight, insurance, import duty, excise duty, VAT, IDF, RDL, port charges, clearing and registration. In other words, you see the complete cost upfront.

We can also compare a Velar with an Evoque or a Sport. For instance, many buyers are surprised how close a Velar D200 is to a well-specced Evoque.

4. Inspection and history checks

We check the infotainment, cameras, suspension, engine and underbody before purchase. Moreover, we run history checks for finance, theft and write-off markers.

Every car then passes the KEBS-appointed inspection. You receive photos and video and approve the car before we buy.

5. Shipping, clearing and registration

We ship your Velar to Mombasa by RoRo or container. Our clearing team then handles KRA, KPA and verification. Subsequently, we register the car with NTSA and fit plates.

See our Mombasa clearing guide for each step.

6. Delivery across Kenya

We deliver to Nairobi areas such as Westlands, Kilimani, Lavington, Kileleshwa, Karen, Runda and Syokimau. We also deliver to Kiambu, Thika, Ruiru and Kitengela.

Upcountry, we serve Nakuru, Naivasha, Eldoret, Kisumu, Kericho, Nyeri, Nanyuki and Meru. On the coast, we deliver to Mombasa, Nyali, Diani and Malindi.

7. Finance and insurance support

We provide the pro-forma invoice and documents your bank needs for asset finance. In addition, we connect you with insurers and tracking firms.

Read our car finance and insurance guide for more.

Comparing a Velar and an Evoque? We can quote both side by side. Use the order form, call +254 725 310 112 or WhatsApp +254 725 310 112.

Velar vs Evoque vs Range Rover Sport

The Evoque is smaller and cheaper, from about KES 5.5M. It suits town driving and smaller families. The Velar offers more space, a bigger boot and a more premium feel.

The Range Rover Sport is taller, more capable off-road and more expensive. Therefore, choose the Sport if you need serious 4x4 ability. Read our Range Rover Sport guide to compare.

Velar vs German and Porsche rivals

The Audi Q5 costs less and is very reliable. The Porsche Macan drives better but costs more to run. Meanwhile, the Jaguar F-Pace shares much of the Velar's engineering at a lower price.

For many Kenyan buyers, the Velar wins on design and badge appeal. However, the Q5 wins on running costs.

Velar running costs in Kenya

The D200 diesel is the cheapest to run. Plan for a service every 15,000 km or once a year at a Land Rover specialist. Parts are available in Nairobi, although some must be ordered.

The Velar uses coil or air suspension depending on version. Air suspension adds comfort but also adds cost later. Similarly, big 21- or 22-inch wheels look great but suffer on potholed roads. Read our Range Rover maintenance guide for detail.

Is the Velar good for Kenyan roads?

Yes, for tarmac and good murram. It has decent ground clearance and all-wheel drive. However, it is less rugged than a Sport or a Defender. Therefore, it suits Nairobi, the highways and weekend trips to Naivasha, rather than deep mud.

Choose smaller wheels with taller tyres for better comfort and fewer punctures. In addition, keep the tyre pressures correct for rough roads.

Locally used vs fresh import Velar

Many local Velars are 2017–2018 cars, often with high mileage. Some are excellent. Still, they cannot be imported again if you later want to compare, and their history is often thin.

A fresh import gives verified mileage and a known first registration date. Moreover, you choose the exact spec. If you buy locally, ask us to inspect the car first.

Best colours and options

Fuji White, Santorini Black and Eiger Grey are the most popular Velar colours in Kenya. Lighter colours stay cooler in the sun. Meanwhile, dark colours look premium but show dust quickly.

Useful options include the panoramic roof, Meridian audio, 360-degree cameras and privacy glass. In addition, adaptive cruise control makes long highway runs easier.

Who should buy a Velar?

The Velar suits buyers who want Range Rover style without Range Rover Sport money. It is especially popular with professionals and entrepreneurs in Nairobi who value design. For example, its clean cabin and flush door handles still turn heads at Westgate or The Hub Karen.

It suits small families too. The rear seat is roomy, and the boot is generous. However, there is no seven-seat option. Larger families should consider a Discovery or a Prado.

Finally, the Velar suits highway drivers. The diesel cruises comfortably on the Nairobi–Nakuru road. In contrast, buyers who mostly drive rough rural roads may prefer a Defender.

Velar buying checklist

First, confirm the first registration date is 2019 or later. Second, match the mileage to the service book and MOT history. Third, test the touchscreens carefully. Early Touch Pro Duo systems can lag, so check that every function responds.

Next, check whether the car has air or coil suspension. Test air suspension at every height. Then inspect the alloy wheels for kerb damage and the tyres for wear. Finally, scan for stored fault codes. We complete this checklist on every Velar we import.

Velar ownership: what to expect in year one

After delivery, book a full service with fresh oil and filters. Then fit a tracker for your insurance. In addition, ask a specialist to install any outstanding software updates for the infotainment and engine.

Protect the paint if the car parks outdoors. Ceramic coating and good-quality wax help against sun and dust. Meanwhile, check the tyre pressures monthly, especially on large wheels. Correct pressures reduce punctures from Nairobi potholes.

Finally, keep every import document safe. When you sell, buyers will ask for the import papers and service records. A complete file adds real value to the car.

Velar resale value in Kenya

The Velar holds its value reasonably well in Kenya, thanks to its design appeal. However, it depreciates faster than a Land Cruiser or Prado. Therefore, buying a fresh import at the right price matters.

Diesel versions and lighter colours tend to sell fastest. In addition, cars with full service history and verified mileage attract the best offers. As a result, keeping records from day one pays off later.

Velar prices in Nairobi, Mombasa and upcountry

Direct import prices are the same across Kenya. Duty and clearing do not depend on where you live. Only the delivery from Mombasa differs, and it is small next to the car's value.

Showroom prices vary more. Nairobi yards on Ngong Road and Mombasa Road add margin and stocking costs. As a result, a fresh import often costs less than a local Velar of the same year. Buyers in Kisumu, Eldoret and Nakuru often save the most, because local stock there is limited.

We give every buyer the same transparent quote. Therefore, you can compare our landed price directly with any local offer.

Velar options that make sense in Kenya

Some options add real value on Kenyan roads. The 360-degree camera helps in tight Nairobi parking and on narrow farm tracks. Adaptive cruise control reduces fatigue on long highway trips. Moreover, the heated windscreen clears mist quickly on cold mornings in Limuru or Nanyuki.

Other options matter less. For example, 22-inch wheels look dramatic but hurt comfort and raise tyre costs. Similarly, very light interior colours show dust quickly. We help you choose a spec that suits how you actually drive.

Timing helps too. UK dealers receive many part-exchange Velars after the March and September registration changes. As a result, choice is wider and prices are often softer around those months.

We watch the market and tell you when a strong match appears.
